Starting Kinder

Byron Bay Public School offers your child a great start to life.

Children may be enrolled in Kindergarten providing that they have reached the age of 5 years by 31st of July of that year. Documentary evidence of the child’s date of birth must be presented at the time of enrolment.

Enrolment forms are available from our office or can be downloaded from the Department of Education website (pdf file). In the case of children starting Kindergarten, completed forms should be lodged with the school as early as possible in the year preceding. This ensures that you are kept up to date with "Getting Started" events.

There is a fantastic orientation program for all new Kindergarten enrolments at Byron Bay Public School.

Term3 and 4:

·        Involves a series of visits by incoming Kinder students and their parents – conducted over a succession of days in small supervised groups, with tours of the school

·        Night meeting for parents to inform them of matters pertaining to their child’s education at Byron Bay Public

·        Buddy Program – where older students mentor Kinder students in their formative weeks at school.  Each Kinder student has their own buddy to help them feel secure and happy in their new environment.

Term4:

·        A great Activity Fun Day for new Kinder students, their buddy and parents.

A unique feature of the Kinder program is the ‘Freaky Friday’ activity afternoon, where students and teachers engage in a range of exciting play activities, such as Sand play, Construction, dressing up, cooking, art and craft, drama and gardening in the Veg patch.
